People who have traveled or lived in the developing world often find such local groups that are creating solutions to advance the dignity, health and well being of children. They can become "Champions" or supporters of these groups.  Such organizations need to have strong local leadership and direct involvement with those that are affected by social injustices. They must also have the trust of the local community and capable governing and management systems.

To become a Champion, the US resident completes an initial Letter of Inquiry, and preferably, make a face-to-face presentation to the Projects Committee about his/her goals to support a grassroots group and expectations of the OWCF partnership. One of the key selection criteria for a Champion is the willingness to tailor his/her philanthropy as per the needs and priorities of the grassroots group and demonstrate a clear commitment to advance its mission. After reviewing the LOI and the presentation, the Committee votes to move the application to the next step, which is the completion of the required application form and due diligence materials by the grassroots group. Once all the materials are evaluated, the OWCF Board of Directors vote to approve the partnership.

Once the partnership is accepted, the Champion raises funds for the group. OWCF serves as an umbrella organization and provides various financial and grants management services and networking tools to Champions and the grassroots group.  We also provide an energizing and supportive space for a growing community of Champions across the United States to engage in respectful and collaborative global philanthropy, serving as a vital link between contributors and implementers.

CHAMPION MODEL

One World Children's Fund operates using a unique model called the Champion Program. Champions are people or emerging charitable initiatives in the United States who wish to support an existing grassroots group in the world that is addressing the basic and critical needs of children and their caregivers.

An enduring core value of OWCF is to build respectful partnerships with grassroots organizations that are run by the knowledge, wisdom, creativity and ingenuity of local people around the world.
