Agriculture & Rural Livelihoods

In rural areas around the world, agriculture plays a vital role in children's lives – from nutrition and food security to work and income generation.  Some rural families are not able to provide their children with enough food due to difficult agricultural conditions, unequal access to land and water, environmental degradation, high food prices or supply chain issues.  Other poor rural families rely on agricultural child labor to make ends meet.  Every day, millions of girls and boys aged 5-14 work on farms and plantations, planting and harvesting crops, spraying pesticides, and tending livestock.
