Giving young people access to education and literacy provides them with powerful tools to achieve economic and social mobility. In countries around the world, becoming literate often translates into higher-paying jobs, more active participation in decision-making, and an increased sense of self-worth and empowerment. Similarly, obtaining an education allows young people greater freedom to choose their source of income and reduces the likelihood that they will be forced into bondage or sex/drug trafficking.
Many of One World's partners work with communities that are disproportionately affected by a lack of educational resources and where illiteracy rates are 90% or higher.
By providing children in these areas with access to education, our partners work to fill a gap between the richest and poorest members of society.
