Ilela and Ngelenge, Tanzania
The villages of Ilela and Ngelenge sit in a river valley near Lake Nyasa in Tanzania. It is a long drive from any large town and the villagers do not have access to electricity or running water. The Ilela and Ngelenge School Committees are working to improve the learning environment for school children on behalf of the entire community.
They are currently renovating the school after three classrooms were unroofed by the wind in February 2011 during the long rainy season. The school committees are also working to increase the number of desks, books, tables, chairs, blackboard and shelves in the classrooms for a better education and environment. This project will benefit more than 600 children across the two villages.
