According to a study done by the San Francisco Chronicle in 2008, nearly 1 in 4 California students will drop out during high school.
   
In  2008, 1,052 high school students dropped out in San Francisco. Based on that, researchers believe that 21% of entering freshmen will quit before earning a diploma.
   
While juveniles (11 to 17) account for 16% of the arrests in California they made up only about 9.3% of the state's total population.
   
In 2004, a report done by The National Council on Crime and Delinquency reported there were 1,345 juvenile felonies per 100,000 youth aged 10–17.
   
Campaign for Youth Justice has estimated 200,000 youth are tried, sentenced, or incarcerated as adults every year across the United States.
