One World's Resilience Fund Supports Young Refugee’s Development of Repellent Protecting Children from Malaria
One World's Resilience Fund helps organizations continue core programs while responding to emergencies. Wezesha Impact in Uganda used their Resilience Fund grant to provide young entrepreneurs with business training and mentorship, so these young adults could support themselves during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the young refugees who went through Wezesha’s program was recently featured by Uganda's National Newspaper:
"Patient Baraka, together with his sister, fled from DR Congo in 2016, owing to political instability, and settled in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Isingiro District [Uganda]. He was convinced that becoming a refugee had shattered his dream of becoming a doctor. Today, he is not a doctor, but he is contributing to the fight against malaria, one of Uganda's top killer diseases. He manufactures a mosquito repellent under the brand name Botanica."
In addition to protecting children from Malaria, Baraka’s thriving small business employs refugee mothers, creating economic strength for vulnerable families that ripples throughout the community. We are honored to support Wezesha Impact and the young adults they empower through their entrepreneurship program.
